SEALING Masonry IS Not ALWAYS GOOD
New Masonry Should Be Sealed With A Breathable Sealant
Sealing masonry is not always good! All masonry is designed to breathe. Because they are a porous unit and will take some water in sometimes even wicking it up from the ground, they will also need the ability to release it. The specific sealer we use allows your masonry to repel more water and still release what it takes in.
Historic Masonry Should Not Be Sealed
Historical masonry is more porous and takes on large volumes of water. That said it releases large volumes of water as well and needs to breathe as much as possible. We will in extreme cases break this rule in areas where water is penetrating soft masonry into living space. Every other option should be exhausted first. Remember Sealing masonry is not always good when you have historic masonry involved!
